Emergency Management Officer

Job Description He angituutanga: The opportunity Reporting to the Response and Resilience Manager, the Emergency Management Officer (EMO) will facilitate delivery of Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) by supporting Council, Hamilton City communities, and relevant agencies in understanding their hazards, planning for and mitigating risk and developing preparedness and collectively building resilience against disasters.
You will be expected to: · Being Self motivated to engage and building networks with communities and other agencies including emergency responders to help increase the resilience of city residents.
· Educating the community about natural and manmade hazards that Hamilton is exposed to what they can do to be prepared for potential impacts of the hazards.
· Developing and enhancing emergency response plans.
During business-as-usual this role will focus on building relationships and plans, so that local people and agencies including Council staff are well prepared to cope when disaster strikes.
During an emergency, the focus will shift to delivery and adaptation of those plans in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, ensuring a rapid response to the unfolding needs of communities.
Qualifications Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience · Tertiary degree or equivalent experience (minimum 5 years) in emergency management or similar operational role.
· Completed CDEM sector training via the Integrated Training Framework (ITF) including Foundational, Intermediate and Functional or the ability to complete this training in a reasonable space of time upon commencement in the role.
· Demonstrated competent decision making within high stress (emergency) situations.
· A positive, can do, solutions focused attitude and a genuine commitment to increasing disaster resilience for Hamilton residents.
· An understanding of community issues, challenges and opportunities.
· Highly developed interpersonal skills and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders (internal and external) · Experience in facilitating groups.
· Highly competent in the use of technology including Microsoft office.
· Cultural awareness, including awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi.
· Full NZ Drivers Licence.
