About the Role Our hospital provides a 15 bed emergency department seeing 18,000 patients per year which is supported by 24/7 laboratory and radiology services, including CT.
The emergency department is staffed by an eclectic team of doctors – rural specialists, emergency medical officers and emergency specialists.
We assess all patients presenting acutely to the hospital and treat, transfer, or admit as required.
Our medical roster provides SMO cover 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, you will enjoy working as part of a team in this busy department.
Currently 10-hour duties are being worked in the department.

About the Team/Service We pride ourselves on the provision of quality and patient focussed care and work in a true inter-disciplinary way with nursing and allied health team members.
The hospital has a feel of everyone pulling together to ensure the patients are cared for in the very best way possible across the care continuum.
Thames Join us - Come and join us at Thames Hospital About Thames Thames Hospital is a modern 50-bed secondary care facility offering a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department, inpatient care, day surgery, an infusion unit, rehabilitation services, birthing unit and low-acuity mental health care.
Our hospital boasts 24-hour laboratory and radiology services, including advanced CT imaging.
As an accredited training hub, we support 5th and 6th-year medical students from Auckland University, PGY2 House Officers, and registrars in Rural Hospital Medicine and General and Acute Care Medicine.
We offer a robust quality improvement program, CME opportunities, and an RMO teaching program.
Telehealth is expanding at Thames, supporting inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and emergency services like stroke thrombolysis.
Located in the heart of The Coromandel, Thames is a charming town steeped in history and surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
The area offers a mix of colonial architecture, a vibrant arts scene, and a rich cultural heritage, including Māori history and the town's gold mining past.

About you Applications are invited from Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or Fellows of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine, or overseas equivalent.
Medical officers with appropriate experience in emergency medicine will also be considered.
You must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
