About the Role: The Emergency Management Professional will play a critical role in helping our community prepare for and respond to disasters. This includes engaging with communities and other agencies to increase resilience, educating the community about hazards, and developing and enhancing emergency response plans.
Main Responsibilities: · Facilitate delivery of CDEM by supporting Council, Hamilton City communities, and relevant agencies in understanding their hazards, planning for and mitigating risk, and developing preparedness and collectively building resilience against disasters.
· Develop and enhance emergency response plans.
· Engage with communities and other agencies to increase the resilience of city residents.
· Provide guidance on how to be prepared for potential impacts of hazards.
Requirements: · Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in emergency management or a similar operational role.
· Completed CDEM sector training via the ITF or the ability to complete this training in a reasonable space of time upon commencement in the role.
· Demonstrated competent decision-making within high-stress situations.
· A positive, can-do attitude and a genuine commitment to increasing disaster resilience for Hamilton residents.
· An understanding of community issues, challenges, and opportunities.
· Highly developed interpersonal skills and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
· Experience in facilitating groups.
· Highly competent in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office.
· Cultural awareness, including awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi.
· Full NZ Driver's License.
