Western Springs Association Football ClubWestern Springs AFC (WSAFC) is currently the biggest sporting club in New Zealand with almost 3,000 members and a history dating back to 1923. From social leagues to performance football, WSAFC offers pathways for players and coaches of all ages and abilities to thrive and reach their full potential.About the roleThe club is in search of its first-ever General Manager to lead WSAFC into its next chapter of success. This is a fixed term role until 30 November 2026.Reporting to the Executive Board you will lead the transition of the club to a new operating model. This will involve a change programme that addresses opportunities for improvements to our systems, practices and organisational structures to align with our strategy and vision to achieve sporting excellence.Key responsibilitiesStrategy and planning: Developing and implementing a business plan to achieve the club's strategy and vision.Staff and volunteer management: Building and leading a high performing team of staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and inclusive culture.Football operations: Overseeing the management of all football activities, including junior/youth programs, senior teams, and coaching staff.Facilities management: Overseeing the maintenance and development of the club's facilities, ensuring they are safe, accessible, and conducive to football activities.Financial management: Developing and managing the club’s budget and reporting ensuring the club is financially sustainable through driving revenue generation, cost management, and fundraising initiatives.Marketing and communications: Overseeing the club’s marketing, branding, and communications.Community engagement: Fostering strong relationships with the local community, including schools, businesses, and other key stakeholders.Compliance and governance: Ensuring the club adheres to all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.About youYou may already be an experienced General Manager, or you may have developed some of the necessary skills and be ready to take the next step in your career.The desired skills, experience and attributes that are required for this role include:Proven ability to work effectively with an Executive Board.Experience leading, managing, and motivating small, dedicated teams.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build enduring relationships with stakeholders.Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and financial reporting.Knowledge of facilities and assets management.Experience in marketing, branding, and sponsorship management.Experience within a community not-for-profit organisation is desirable, but not essential.If you are passionate about football and community engagement and see yourself as a dynamic leader with the ability to think strategically and manage operational details, we would love to hear from you.You will be required to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.How to applyIf this sounds like your next challenge and aligns with your experience, please apply with your up-to-date CV and cover letter.Applications close Wednesday 16 October 2024.All applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand without restriction.
