Te Papa is recruiting for a permanent part-time Object Support Preparator position at 32 hours per week. Reporting to the Manager Exhibitions Services, this position sits within the Collections and Research Directorate.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team that is home to Te Papa's core museological practices.

An Object Support Preparator is responsible for designing and fabricating safe display mounts, storage and transit supports, and provide related advice for collection items. They will also support the wider Exhibitions Services team by assisting with the installation and deinstallation of collection items from exhibitions when required.

We are looking for a person who has a focus in mount-making, and who will:

- Design and fabricate display supports, transit and storage solutions for collection and loan items
- Generate accompanying documentation for display supports, including providing cost estimates for materials and time to ensure accurate project planning
- Demonstrate the ability to work positively and collaboratively as part of a team, and on shared projects
- Provide a high standard of technical advice, assistance and solutions
- Share skills and knowledge and build internal and external networks and capabilities

**Knowledge, experience and qualifications**
- Essential_
- Minimum 3 years of experience mount-making in a similar museum, gallery or creative design industry
- A relevant technical qualification
- Proven experience in the design, fabrication and documentation of supports to display, store and transit collection items or similar, and an ability to interpret design plans, estimate quantities, time and costs.
- Experience with materials such as acrylic, resins, fabrics and paint
- High level of competency in carpentry and/or metal work, including associated equipment such as table saws, lathe, mill, TIG/MIG welding, jig and drop saws etc.
- Awareness of cultural considerations. Knowledge of Māori protocols when handling, supporting and displaying taonga
- A can-do attitude, a passion for working in museums as part of a team, and actively contribute to a supportive, and inclusive working environment
- Excellent time management and the ability to work with mínimal supervision and co-ordinate with multiple staff to complete activities on projects that run concurrently
- Familiarity with Vectorworks or similar software
- Valid New Zealand driver's licence
