Based in Pōneke Wellington, our Policy Puni leads across the public sector to understand and prioritise issues, needs and opportunities impacting on Māori development and wellbeing. The Puni consists of 8 teams focusing on specific Policy areas.

Māori Sector Partnerships focuses on strengthening the Māori Sector by ensuring mechanisms and arrangements for Māori entities, organisations and institutions are fit for purpose. This includes legislative reform relating to Māori Development. We have an exciting opportunity for an Analyst to join this small, dynamic, professional team.

**Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity**

Providing a high standard of advice to the Policy Manager, Māori Sector Partnerships, other key stakeholders within Te Puni Kōkiri and across the wider public sector. You will help to shape and influence policy and will:

- Provide credible, evidence-based advice anchored in the context of iwi, hapu, whānau and Māori as it applies to Māori Sector Partnerships
- Conduct thorough and detailed analysis of complex policy issues to understand their implications and identify potential solutions
- Work collaboratively with peers at Te Puni Kōkiri and with other key stakeholders across government. Build and maintain strong relationships with Māori entities and organisations
- Contribute to robust team discussion, and promote a culture of continuous feedback
- Providing support to Policy Managers, and Principal and Senior Policy Analysts as part of a one team approach. Learning from these kaimahi to grow and expand your skillset.

**Mōu | About you**

An aspiring policy professional, you have experience in an environment where te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi frameworks underpin your mahi. You may be familiar with legislation and may have worked as part of a team to collate responses from Māori organisations to legislation and policy development in the past. You will have:

- The mix of knowledge, skills, practices, and behaviours required by a modern policy practitioner to be able to deliver quality policy advice with the desire to continually learn and grow your policy skillset
- An understanding of, and ability to prioritise the flow of information, with the conceptual and analytical skills to provide solutions to ambiguous or complex problems
- Some knowledge of the legal frameworks in Aotearoa
- Have highly developed communication skills, including written. Ideally you will have competency in te reo Māori, or as a minimum have a willingness to learn
- Confidence to engage with and build long-term relationships with key stakeholders, including Māori entities and organisations**
- Are comfortable in an ao Māori environment and are comfortable in situations where tikanga is observed
