**Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With**

Te Kaupeka Pūtaiao | Faculty of Science offers a wide range of internationally-recognised science qualifications - some unique in Australasia. Its extensive facilities include the most field stations of any New Zealand university, and state of the art laboratory spaces.

The faculty consists for four Schools (Te Kura Mahi ā-Hirikapo | School of Psychology, Speech and Hearing, Te Kura Pūtaiao Koiora | School of Biological Sciences, Te Kura Aronukurangi | School of Earth and Environment and Te Kura Matū | School of Physical and Chemical Sciences) and a Faculty Office. The faculty teaches over 3,000 full time equivalent students with 380 full time equivalent staff. Activities the Faculty are involved in where compliance advice will be needed include chemical and hazardous substance management, field trips and remote field stations, radiation management, working with animals and biological substances, health related clinics, workshop, management of drugs and work-place learning.

**Āu Mahi | What You Will Do**

The Faculty of Science Compliance Manager is a critical leadership role as you will be responsible for developing and setting standards and frameworks, monitoring for compliance, providing technical and support services, and offering compliance training and education. You will provide senior staff and management committees specialist advice and support to meet safety compliance requirements.

You will expertly build and maintain good working relationships with staff within the Faculty, the UC Health and Safety Team, other departments within the University and other organisations within New Zealand and internationally to foster the sharing of best practice relating to compliance. In addition, you will provide representation for the faculty to external enforcement agencies including WorkSafe NZ, Ministry of Primary Industries, Environmental Protection Authority and Ministry of Health.

**Mōu | Who You Are**

Along with substantial in-depth technical knowledge of hazardous substances, radioactive material and ionising equipment, dangerous goods, chemical properties, you will also have:

- Substantial experience in managing and leading people and demonstrated ability to lead a team of people to achieve outcomes.
- Substantial and in-depth knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, standards and compliance obligations relating to health, safety and compliance.
- At least ten years' experience in accident investigation, hazard identification, risk assessment and control in a complex multifaced organisation.
- Experience working in laboratory environments including laboratories where independent research is being carried out.
