The role and opportunity

  • Tuhiraki is the name of AgResearch's new scientific research facility and corporate headquarters. We are getting closer to moving into this new facility, adjacent to Lincoln University. The purpose of this role is primarily to develop, implement and manage facility compliance and operations that maximise science delivery for the AgResearch Lincoln campus. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person for this new, permanent role. The Science Facility Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of all operational aspects of the laboratories, with a focus on ensuring compliance with legislation pertaining to the operation of a specialist research facility. The role facilitates the effective operation of the facility through establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with our scientists, site management, as well as with partners and key stakeholders.

This is a busy role - here are some of the key responsibilities:

  • Overseeing PC1 and PC2 containment laboratories, growth cabinets, glasshouses, chemical storage, and disposal
  • Supporting our laboratories with services in relation to resource management, MPI and HSNO legislation
  • Effective financial planning, including setting and maintaining operating budgets and cash flow management
  • Working proactively with research, people leaders and site management to identify and plan compliance management and operational systems
  • Developing and delivering appropriate biosecurity and containment training to all laboratory staff

Your ideal background

  • Tertiary qualified in science, engineering or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in a compliance role
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build successful relationships
  • A keen attitude and motivation to work in an innovative environment
  • Ability to work autonomously while being part of a collaborative team
  • Demonstrate safe workplace behaviour by taking all practicable steps to ensure own and others' safety in the workplace
