The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our Palmerston North Contracting team. The position will be predominately based in Palmerston North but will have accountability across the Manawatu region, including Whanganui.

In this role you will focus on maximizing the performance of people, plant and fleet to supply on a number of major Civil infrastructure projects across the Manawatu region. You will provide direction and leadership in managing staff and other resources to ensure high performance service delivery of the contracting team. You will also provide high level strategic and operational 'day to day' management support to the Auckland contracting team with a strong focus on developing and implementing service improvements.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following qualifications and experience:

- Minimum 5 years relevant construction experience (including job and project management)
- Understanding of job pricing including materials, labour and plant and associated margin/profit calculations
- Familiar with NZS 3910, Construction Contracts Act, NEC contracts
- Competent user of Work, Excel and Project
- Proactive in driving health and safety and quality with a sound understanding of operational processes
- Excellent problem solving abilities and be able to develop flexible adapts plans to meet business needs
- Outstanding communication skills and the ability to be able to deal openly and honestly with issues, including constructively resolving conflict.
- Proven experience in maintaining relationships with clients, subcontractors, and employees, based on honesty, and delivering on promises, a win-win approach to negotiations whilst maintaining a positive and friendly style.
- Ability to lead a team including coaching, development and manage performance
- You will have tenacity and flexibility to operate in strong a competitive tender market
- Develop or support the introduction of new and improved methods, procedures, processes or technologies
