We have a current opening for an Operations Manager based in Whanganui to support the delivery of our Alliance Maintenance Contract.


As a key part of the Whanganui Alliance Operations Team, you will be responsible for working with the Alliance Manager to manage and effectively deliver all Maintenance and Construction activities, including internal and external supply partner activities.


You will be responsible for continuously reviewing the operations and identifying and effecting necessary improvements around Quality, Efficiency, well-being and Safety.

It is, therefore, essential to identify best practices and develop internal relationships to enable change and sustainable business improvement.

You will be accountable for operational effectiveness and for exchanging achievement and performance feedback to the Delivery and Performance teams.


  • Plan work streams to ensure adequate contract management resource, field resource, and plant resources
  • Maintain, winning relationships with Subcontractors to ensure they and Downer are successful together.
  • To support the construction team in providing added value solutions to customers and operational delivery teams.

Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills
You'll need demonstrated industry or similar experience and proven operational contract management experience.

You will also have the following:

  • A qualification in Civil Engineering or relevant experience within these industries
  • Proven understanding of financial management, including revenue, expected margin, procurement and cost control
  • A track record of successfully supervising teams within or across contracts
  • The ability to deal with unexpected events/make decisions and provide direction to work teams, including an appreciation of Emergency Management as required
  • The willingness to provide solutions to assist with a 'continual improvement' philosophy
  • A collaborative approach to working within and across multifunctional teams from different parts of the business
  • The ability to create and deliver a strong customer focus culture
