The Liggins Institute is a large-scale research institute at the University of Auckland. For over two decades, researchers at the Liggins Institute have shown that events during or immediately prior to pregnancy can have an impact on an individual’s lifelong health. We are one of the world’s leading centres for research on fetal and child health, nutrition, development, epigenetics, and translational and implementation science.

**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
The Liggins Institute is establishing the Newborn Genomics Programme, a precision medicine initiative based on rapid trio whole genome sequencing for critically ill fetuses, babies, and children and for rare diseases. We will take a whole-of-genome approach, incorporating our research in the 3D interactions of regions of the genome, both in cis (within a chromosome) and trans (between chromosomes), and our network analysis of gene pathways. Artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques will align genotype with phenotype.
We are seeking a **Postdoctoral Fellow **to join our team at The Liggins Institute, to contribute to the bioinformatics component of the Newborn Genomics programme. You will be responsible for conducting research and analysis agreed on with the Newborn Genomics Programme Principal Investigator (PI) according to standard protocol and procedures, and in keeping with ethical requirements.
This is a **full-time** (40 hours per week), **fixed term** (up to 36 months duration) opportunity.
The remuneration is $84,396 - $88,853 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

**Qualifications**:
**He kōrero mōu | About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Doctoral qualification in a relevant field, and a background in genomics, bioinformatics or bio-statistics.
- Experience of high-performance computing (e.g. google cloud), and programming skills in Perl, Python, or equivalent languages.
- Documented previous experience with analysis of high-throughput large-scale datasets.
- Experience working with large genomic, eQTL, and chromatin datasets.
- Strong skills with quantitative research methods.
- Experience working with Linux-based operating systems
- Expertise and extensive research capabilities in SNP functional assignment.
