Auckland Council’s Local Board Services is currently looking for a full time Democracy Advisor supporting the Franklin/Manurewa/Papakura Local Board. This role will report to the Local Area Manager and will be based in the Papakura office.

Local Boards are a key part of the Auckland Council governance structure and they play a significant role across communities with a focus on arts and culture, community services, parks and recreation, economic development, the environment, infrastructure, and place shaping activities.

As a Democracy Advisor you will play a pivotal role in the democratic processes. Democracy Advisors support in meetings and workshops by advising on correct procedures and legislative time frames.

Day-to-day you could work on:

- Preparing public meetings and workshops, including notifications, scheduling public

forums and workshop attendees

is expected
- Advising elected members, colleagues and the public on meeting procedures and rules.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

This role will see you working alongside Local Board Members, senior management and representatives from Tamaki Makaurau’s diverse communities therefore a high level of confidence will be vital to your success.

You will be politically savvy with the ability to process complex information and provide focussed unbiased advice and guidance to the governing body. This is a busy role which will see you juggling conflicting priorities all while remaining professional and diplomatic

We are looking for someone with self-motivation and a high degree of attention to detail and initiative. Whilst we offer flexibility and hybrid working this role does have some evening work when the Local Board members meet or busy periods during workshops.

We are looking for:

- A great attitude and a willingness to learn council processes and systems
- An understanding or ability to learn local government legislation and meeting procedures
- Experience in the political or business field in governance processes, e.g. provision of agendas and minutes, knowledge of standing orders

**Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer**

Auckland Council is one of the largest local authorities in the South Pacific providing essential services and facilities to more than 1.5 million people. We are progressive socially, culturally and environmentally while we work towards our journey to becoming a world-class city for our ratepayers and residents.
