**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
- Guide controllers during emergency situations on the best way to engage with iwi/Māori.
- Provide Guidance on Matauranga Māori to ensure that tikanga is integrated and its importance is understood.
- Empower and support hapu/iwi to undertake hazard monitoring and management strategies and be prepared for any hazard risks. prepare for hazard risks. Which for the Waikato is all of them - volcanic eruption, earthquake, tsunami and severe weather.
- Enable response and recovery during emergencies through Māori networks and focus groups creating resources and toolkits.
- Implement the Māori Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) framework and a relevant implementation plan.
- Encourage dialogue, action, projects and activities that assist whanau/hapu/iwi with disaster readiness, and which will continue to build resilience in the community.
- Influence and support the enablement of iwi and Māori contribution and leadership within the CDEM Group, providing specialist advice and support on all things Māori.
- Build and maintain enduring relationships with key Māori entities and representatives.
**Mō te tangata | About you**
- Existing networks with Iwi/Māori across the Waikato region.
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain successful and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, elected officials, and executive level officers.
- Highly competent in use of MS Office, MS Teams, and Outlook.
- Strategic and tactical thinking skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Mātauranga Māori, Te Tiriti, and Te Ao M āori.
- Ability to deliver in a political environment that could be high pressure and rapidly changing.
- Have availability to be included in an on-call 24/7 Group Emergency Coordination Centre Duty Officer roster.
**Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience**
- Tertiary qualification or relevant experience.
- Minimum seven years’ experience in a relevant area.
- Project management experience
- Has completed, or is committed to completing Civil Defence Emergency Management - Integrated Training Framework (ITF):
- Foundation
- Intermediate
- Has completed or is committed to completing IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation) or equivalent.
**Mō te tīma | About the team**
- Reporting to the Team Leader - Resilience and Recovery, you will work closely alongside community resilience staff and the wider CDEM staff.
- You will be working with a broad range of stakeholders across the Waikato Regional Civil Defence Emergency Management Group comprising of a consortium of 11 local authorities, iwi, emergency services, lifeline utilities, welfare services organisations, government departments and non-government organisations that operate in the Waikato.
