Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
The Food Regulation Performance team in New Zealand Food Safety is looking for an experienced multidisciplinary advisor who embraces big-picture thinking and is outcome focused.
This is a role will have opportunities to initiate and improve processes that would add value to both Food Regulation Directorate and across New Zealand Food Safety business unit.
This position requires someone with business planning background who will be able to scope, plan and collaborate with the team to design projects & work programs in an efficient way to deliver business needs. They will bring their budgeting and forecasting experience to help plan and prepare the directorate annual work programs and projects, by identifying ways to use resources in an effective way and to be able to articulate business needs for decision makers.
The Senior Adviser will also collaborate with collegues across NZFS such as our finance business partners and senior leadership teams closely to understand the needs and what forward planning will require and how to deliver this.

Ngā kawenga mahi - What will you be doing?
- Create, maintain and improving the services and systems that food businesses use to comply with the legislation in the New Zealand Food Safety System, and support the activities of the Food Regulation directorate that enable businesses to find their own ways to meet the regulatory and suitability outcomes;
- Writing business justifications for budget forecasting;
- Scope future projects and plan budgetary requirements;
- Collaborate with teams to come up with alternative and new improved ways of forward planning;
- Understanding of finance and budgeting within government;
- Reporting on performance measures within food regulation.

We are looking at increasing our capability within the team to understand more around budgeting, accounting, cost modelling and cost recovery so we can support our Food Regulation Directorate and get more from our team.

- Understanding organisational priorities, and work with leaders and managers to prioritise possible solutions
- Ability to persuade leaders and managers that problems require action
- Experience in formulating advice on change initiatives, including assessments of benefits and cost of potential options.
- Proven track record in summarising and presenting complex information in a way that it can be easily understood by various internal and external audiences.
- Success in collaborating with others to achieve mutual outcomes.
