Adviser & Senior Adviser - Supply Chain
Te Manatū Waka, Ministry of Transport is the Government's lead adviser on transport policy. We are a small but agile Ministry - which is perfect if you are after a chance to shine
It's a busy time in the Supply Chain team, as you'll be joining a bunch of high-paced, motivated, professional and friendly people. You'll play a significant role in a wide variety of work, engaging across the Ministry and with other agencies on cross-cutting issues and developing policy initiatives that have a genuine impact on the lives of New Zealanders.

Our Supply Chain team has a wide-ranging and high-profile work programme covering all aspects of the supply chain system whether that is rail, shipping, or road freight. As the supply chain system is so broad, we get to touch on many areas that intersect with freight including economic strategy, international trade, production (eg. manufacturing and agriculture) and urban development. A large part of our work is centred around collaboration with the sector, iwi and other partners.
We are progressing a major work programme spanning the delivery of policy initiatives and strategy development alongside our dynamic and responsive day-to-day work. No day is ever the same in the Supply Chain team
Being a Senior Policy Adviser
As a Senior Adviser in the Supply Chain team, you'll lead projects that have a real impact on the lives of New Zealanders and speak to your work at meetings with Ministers or senior stakeholders. This work could be as diverse as facilitating solutions to supply chain disruption, advising ministers on investment in nationally significant freight infrastructure, representing the Ministry on global supply chain issues, incorporating te ao Māori into our work, harnessing innovative solutions for freight decarbonisation, or bridging the gap between data and policy.
As a Senior Policy Adviser, you will join us from a background where you've gained solid experience in leading and steering projects, problem-solving complex policy issues, and assessing options. You'll be someone who can take all the information on an issue, analyse its facets, and decide on a direction. You will be confident managing programmes of work to ensure efficient, targeted policy analysis and advice is provided to support the delivery of organisation and government goals.

Being a Policy Adviser
As a Policy Adviser, you will take part in advising on a wide range of transport issues. This includes responding professionally and comprehensively to requests from the public and the Minister. You may be new to the public sector or have some experience providing professional advice in a government, legal, consulting or industry setting.
These roles provide an opportunity to broaden your policy experience, deliver reactive & strategic advice, build confidence in stakeholder engagement, deepen your understanding of regulatory processes and develop new relationships. At least one of the roles will be focussed on the exciting challenge of decarbonising our land freight system. Most importantly, you will be part of a busy, collaborative team, with energetic policy minds and a proven track record of delivery.
