**Our Opportunity**:
As a leading player in the NZ electricity market and owning a significant portfolio of assets, we are seeking and experienced and visionary Manager Strategic Asset Management to lead a team of specialists. This role bridges the gap between wider areas of the business with the goal of enhancing our commercial position through strategic analysis, lifecycle planning and data modelling.

In this role, you will be responsible for driving excellence in asset management. Your team of approximately four, will provide critical insights, ensuring that our assets are optimised for performance and value. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop future investment strategies to strengthen our position in New Zealand. In this pivotal role you will be involved in strategic investment decisions, working closely with other areas of the business to understand the condition of our assets and what reinvestment would look like and then assisting to build business cases. This role involves presenting to the executive management team and board these business cases for these projects and ensuring there is a consistent approach to maintaining CAPEX and commercial decisions pertaining to the future of the assets.

We are looking for someone with a strong commercial lens in a role that binds together the technical elements of engineering and how that lands commercially for the business, future investment strategies and potentially future development for the business. This is a newly created role leading a new team where you'll be able to create impact and set up processes.

You will be part of a leadership team of seven for Asset Management and Engineering. Preference is for this role to be based in Hamilton in an environment that encourages flexibility and provides you with opportunities to collaborate in the office or work from home.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Manage a team of Specialist Commercial Engineers who provide a link between the Engineering and Asset, Generation Operations, Geothermal reservoir and Wholesale Trading team through the provision of strategic analysis, lifecycle planning and high-quality data modelling and analytics in support of major projects
- Economic analysis of significant improvement opportunities on a case-by-case basis, including generation enhancement, plant refurbishments and replacements
- Identifying and evaluating opportunities for improving the overall performance of Mercury assets through commercially viable initiatives
- The economic evaluation of Capital and Expense projects with focus on economic analysis of value-creating opportunities identified through the Life Cycle and Asset Management plans

**We are looking for**:

- A working knowledge of engineering principles and practices, together with an understanding of power generation plant.
- Proven technical expertise in relevant engineering modelling software packages.
- Good written and oral communication skills - prepare clear reports and public presentations on technical issues.
- A good understanding of the need to establish and meet client requirements and maintain sound working relationships.
- Competent in VBA programming or other programming discipline(s)
