Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Influence the conduct of banks and non-bank deposit takers
- Ensure consumers are treated fairly
- Flexible working

Who we are - Ko wai mātou
A great place to work. With great work to do.
We are Aotearoa New Zealand's financial markets conduct regulator, the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) - Te Mana Tātai Hokohoko. We stand for a strong and trusted financial sector that treats people fairly.
The FMA's remit and regulatory approach is evolving to have a stronger focus on promoting fair outcomes, particularly for consumers of financial products & services. Our new role is growing into something pretty exciting - now let's talk about yours.

The Role - Te Tūranga
Right now, we're looking for a Senior Relationship Manager, Conduct to join our team. This team supervises the conduct across banks and non-bank deposit takers (NBDT), such as credit unions, using an outcomes focused approach to regulation. This is a regulatory approach focusing on the actual outcomes experienced by consumers and markets.
As a Senior Relationship Manager in this space, you will have primary responsibility to actively lead engagements with large banks, domestic banks and NBDTs to form strong and collaborative working relationships (think of this role as managing the relationship between the bank and the FMA). Our approach is to support the banking & NBDT industry as we prepare for the Conduct of Financial Institutions (CoFI) regime, where licensing opened in July 2023 and the regime goes live from March 2025. Once the new conduct regime is in force you will build and maintain the relationship through proactive oversight, support and challenge to help ensure consumers get fair outcomes from their provider.
There will also be the opportunity to support wider FMA initiatives and projects as our regulatory work expands. At the FMA we work closely with other front line regulatory teams such as Insurance; Financial Advice, and Licensing. You will also work with Policy and Strategy teams.

About you - Ō pūkenga
Having the credibility and confidence to engage with senior stakeholders will be crucial to your success in this role, as demonstrated through your previous experience working in a role where strong relationship building and stakeholder engagement skills have been key. You will also be able to demonstrate how you have supported others to succeed.
You have experience in retail banking and conduct and are now looking to move to a role where you can have a wider influence on the industry and help improve customer outcomes. Your current role may be in product, operations, risk or consulting at senior analyst / assistant manager / manager level or working towards that.
That being said, we are very open to considering other backgrounds within the financial services industry, provided you can show us why you're motivated by fair consumer treatment and how you've put fair consumer outcomes first in your previous roles (as well as having proven stakeholder management skills).

What we offer - Ngā painga
A strong emphasis is placed on life/work balance, enabling you to be at your best in every aspect of your life. We offer flexibility for working at home and in the office, plus a considerable annual leave allowance, an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you, generous parental leave provisions and a variety of regular wellness initiatives and activities.
We also offer extensive training and learning & development opportunities to ensure you're well equipped to thrive in your role, you will get to understand the financial services from the unique perspective of an outcomes-focused regulator.

To Apply

Applications close 5pm, Wednesday 14 February.
