Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Parliament Full time

When you work in Parliament, you don't just watch democracy in action - you're part of it. And in the Office of the Clerk we work at its core, providing advisory services to the House of Representatives, directly assisting the House and its committees with the business of Parliament.

**Te tīma | The team**:
Select Committee Services supports select committees with the administrative, procedural, and reporting back aspects of their work.

**Mō te tūnga | About the role**:
As Clerk of Committee you'll play a lead role in overseeing services to one or more designated select committees. As well as attending all meetings and coordinating the committee's programme of work, you'll work closely with Members of Parliament, providing advice on matters to do with committee procedure, scrutiny of legislation and scrutiny of State Sector agencies.

**Ngā haepapa** **| Responsibilities**:
Working for Parliament in a totally impartial, politically neutral environment, your organisational, planning, relationship management and communication skills will be invaluable as you:

- lead a small secretariat team
- liaise with departmental advisers and parliamentary counsel
- coordinate a select committee's programme of work
- brief committee chairpersons
- provide advice on parliamentary procedures.

**Tō kete | What you will bring to the role**:
You'll be building a strong professional relationship with the Chairperson of your committee, so you need to be tactful, diplomatic, and confident working with senior public figures. You'll also need the skills to work with different personalities, and have the ability to think on your feet, cope with pressure, and deal effectively with the unexpected.

Alongside a tertiary qualification, you'll be confident in leading a small team or advising decision makers and stakeholders. Ensuring correct procedures are followed is a critical part of this role so you'll need to be someone who appreciates the need for rules and processes. But this role isn't just about following a set of rules - you'll also need sound judgement and decision making skills for situations when the way forward isn't clear-cut.

**Why work for Office of the Clerk?**
- You will join a hardworking and high performing team
- We offer a thorough induction, on-going development, and excellent working conditions
- We represent our values of Courage, Integrity, Manaakitanga, Impartiality and Kaitiakitanga
- We offer a range of benefits from study assistance to flexible working arrangements. Our ever-changing environment we work in allows us to be part of the action at Parliament including attending question time, select committees and other key events.

If this sounds like you and you're up for a challenge, while helping to support New Zealand's democracy, we'd love to hear from you.

The appointing base salary for this role is $95,989 to $105,980 per annum. Appointments will be based on skills, experience and relativity (remuneration band extends beyond the appointing salary range to account for tenure progression).

Click the APPLY button and include your resume and cover letter. Applications close at midnight, Wednesday 10 April 2024.

The Office of the Clerk appoints on merit and is committed to EEO and good employer principles. We welcome applicants from all walks of life and value the experience that your point of difference brings.
