We are looking for a resilient Technical Research and Development lead, to drive innovation and advancement within our organisation and join our all-star team in Auckland. Growing your career as an R&D lead is a promising opportunity to develop competitive skills.

This is a permanent, full-time role with a very competitive hourly rate. You will be required to work at least 32 hours weekly. Reporting to the production manager, you will assist ice cream product development, be responsible for developing new products, running kitchen & factory trials, managing standardisation projects, working with our customers and sales team on new projects, and being the product development expert in the business.

**Your tasks will include** the following**:

- Establish and maintain clear communication channels with key stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and cohesive approach to product development.
- Take a leadership role in training a dedicated technician to assist in specific recipe development tasks, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and skill development.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring a reliable and high-quality source of ingredients.
- Research and evaluate new machinery to enhance production quality, contributing to the overall efficiency and innovation in our processes.
- Implement strategies to extend the shelf life of gelato products destined for FMCG outlets, aligning with our goal of meeting consumer demands and expanding market presence.
- Take charge of major research projects, coordinating the efforts of other research workers and ensuring the successful execution of initiatives.
- Assess the benefits and monitor the costs and effectiveness of research and development activities, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.

**The successful applicant will have**:

- Advanced skillset and expertise in the culinary arts and the food science sector
- 8+ years of experience in related positions, including product management, R&D, innovation, and process improvement.
- A passion for food and in particular FMCG - proven knowledge in the gelato industry is strongly preferred
- Good technical knowledge & understanding of regulations
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver within tight timeframes.
- Problem solving skills
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent communication skills
