Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Our Senior Advisers lead projects to develop, implement, maintain and review import health standards in accordance with international principles. This will mean that you are doing such things as assessing and making recommendations on equivalence requests for individual consignments, reviewing and analysing the effectiveness of import health standards on import pathways by analysing non-compliance and pest interceptions, and reviewing the efficacy of quarantine treatments and evaluating alternative treatments as submitted by industry or overseas organisations for inclusion in these standards. Our Senior Advisers are mentors to other staff and this is a key function of the role.

Mōu - About You
Key to your success will be your excellent communication (both written and verbal) and relationship skills. An understanding of the biosecurity regulatory framework of New Zealand is essential.

Animal and Plant Health covers all the activities that contribute to reducing the likelihood that harmful pests and diseases will arrive at our border. The work we do here ensures the vast majority of biosecurity risk is managed offshore. Producers, exporters, exporting country competent authorities and importers all take action to comply with the requirements contained in our import health standards (IHSs) and Craft Risk Management Standards. These requirements, and the actions to verify compliance at the border, work together to provide New Zealand with an appropriate level of protection and reduce biosecurity risk to an acceptable level.
