This is an exciting fixed term opportunity for a Principal Advisor Transition to join the Weathertight Services team in MBIE’s Building and Tenancy Branch, to drive the transition strategy as we work towards closure at the right time.

Established in 2002, the aim of Weathertight Services is to help owners of leaky homes resolve their claims and repair their homes, so they can move on with their lives. We administer the Weathertight Homes Resolution Services Act 2006, and maintain oversight of the entire remediation process for the claims repairing via the Financial Assistance Package (FAP). With fewer than 80 claims left open (from a total pool of 7,400), we are now firmly focused on moving remaining claims forward, and preparing for the future closure of the Service.

The Principal Advisor Transition will lead the development and implementation of the transition strategy, whilst working with other teams within MBIE to deliver key transition workstreams. You will be adept at keeping relevant leaders up-to-date as needed, and providing advice to overcome barriers that may arise as the transition progresses.

You will demonstrate customer-centric thinking and work with the team to ensure a collaborative approach to the transition strategy.

This is a unique opportunity to help steer a significant regulatory intervention safely through its sunset phase, balancing the continued need to deliver an operational service with the changing needs of transitioning to closure.

- Proven strategic thinker with a can-do attitude and experience delivering strategic outcomes and work programmes, and at least 12-18 months in an equivalent principal position.
- Demonstrated experience working within a regulatory area, with a particular understanding of legal requirements of information and data management.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, to a variety of different people and audiences, and the ability to quickly build and grow effective relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Displays a deep understanding of New Zealand’s machinery of government and regulatory environments, including decision-making and operating procedures.
- Experience working with Quality Management Frameworks and quickly developing a detailed understanding of the team’s operating model and processes.
- Proven experience driving, delivering and managing team-based projects.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or extensive and comparable experience

You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
