Mō te tūnga | About the role
Our Transition Advisors work together to operate the Transition Assistance service and helpline - the central hub and point of contact for Transition Support Services. Transition Advisors provide support to rangatahi aged 15-25 years that are transitioning from care and youth justice into adulthood. Transition Advisors help rangatahi to understand their entitlements, be connected to the services and supports available to them, provide financial assistance where appropriate and to put them in touch with face-to-face support should they require it. At times this may involve responding to requests from other people supporting these young people, such as whānau, caregiving whānau and professionals.
Transition Advisors need to be able to engage and build a relationship with rangatahi, responding to their needs and supporting them in their challenges. Using their experience in working with rangatahi, Transition Advisors will support rangatahi with a relational, trauma-informed, flexible and responsive approach, in keeping with the design and principles of the Transition Support Service.

**Key requirements of the role include**:

- Experience and passion working with young people
- An ability to work in crisis and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with young people
- Strong analytical skills to ascertain the full range of needs required by the young person
- An ability to remain calm and level headed under pressure
- A relevant qualification (e.g. youth work, social work, health, teaching or human services)
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Oranga Tamariki Act 1989
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
