A once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of implementing significant policy reform for Aotearoa
- Enable delivery of the RM reform transition and implementation first tranche region project
- Join a collaborative and remote-based team who value and foster shared responsibility
- Flexible ways of working including flexible location/remote-working
We have a unique opportunity for a Senior Advisor to join our Resource Management (RM) Reform - Transition and Implementation team within MfE's Policy Implementation and Delivery (PID) rōpū.
PID leads the planning and management of policy implementation, bringing together integrated partnerships iwi/Māori, partner agencies, local government, councils, industry and the scientific community to achieve collaborative, transformational delivery of environmental reforms.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
Ensuring a smooth transition to, and effective implementation of the future RM system, is critical to achieving the objectives of the RM reform. In this role you will work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team of policy implementation professionals to deliver a programme of work to implement the resource management reforms.
You will be working on the first tranche region project, which will help facilitate a successful transition to the new system. This involves working with a selected region (iwi/Māori and local government) and central government agencies operating in the region to develop the first Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS), followed by a Natural and Built Environments Act (NBA) combined plan. This will test and demonstrate the new spatial strategy and plan-making processes and provide learnings for other regions that follow.
Your expertise from a policy implementation perspective, and experience working with iwi/Māori and local government will be invaluable. You will bring elements of pragmatism and agility to your role to effectively contribute to positive outcomes, whilst gaining a wealth of knowledge and exposure to significant policy reform with an implementation lens. You will work in close collaboration with colleagues and teams across MfE, including other RM reform teams. The nature of our working environment can be fast-paced and often ambiguous, so your flexibility and adaptability to navigate multiple priorities and a changing environment is critical.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Environmental planning experience at a senior level or experience as a laywer operating in resource management;
- Strong stakeholder management and engagements skills across diverse groups, including experience engaging with Māori and local government;
- A pragmatic and agile systems-thinking approach - you have the ability to think strategically across systems and effectively navigate and deliver against multiple competing priorities;
- Exceptional writing skills - you can effectively tailor communications to suit varying audiences;
- Demonstrated project management or delivery skills, with the ability to identify and manage risks; and
- Some understanding of machinery of government and legislative reform.
Resource Management experience / an academic qualification in planning or law, or proven environmental planning experience is highly desirable.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $105,802 up to $128,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
