**Job Description** Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

We are seeking an experienced **Technical Manager** to lead the Technical Services team supporting **Te Kura Mātai Matū | The School of Chemical Sciences** across four technical groups who provide specialist support and services to academic staff and students undertaking research and teaching activities.

This is an exciting opportunity to hold a key role overseeing operational management and regulatory compliance of the School’s technical facilities, equipment, and laboratory operations. You will contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans for Technical Services and the School, work collaboratively with Team Leaders on planning and workforce management, and provide leadership, mentoring and direction for your team.

Working within the School of Chemical Sciences, you will gain exposure to an vibrant intellectual environment that teaches and performs research in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, green chemical science, food science and nutrition, forensic science, and wine science.

This is a **fulltime** (37.5 hours per week), **permanent** position.
The remuneration is $111,000 - $127,500 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

**Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team**

The Faculty of Science’s Technical Services Team comprises over 100 technical staff providing specialist support to the Faculty’s academic staff and students across 10 Schools and Departments. They contribute technical knowledge and expertise to research and teaching activities while ensuring the ongoing operation and compliance of a vast range of laboratories, workshops, teaching facilities, research equipment, vehicles, and boats.

To be successful in this role you will also need to have proven staff and operations management experience in a technical or research environment.

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**
- A strong working knowledge of chemical safety and management.
- Ability to navigate health and safety legislation and implement sound practice preferably in a scientific, engineering, or medical research environment.
- Good basic knowledge of equipment inventory and life cycle management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of a broad range of technical disciplines relevant to the School.
