**About you**:
We are seeking an experienced team leader who is passionate about supporting the primary sector to reduce the environmental footprint of agriculture in the region. The Primary Sector Engagement team is responsible for ensuring strategic, timely, efficient and prioritised engagement with Primary Sector stakeholders to help them meet their regulatory obligations. You will help build the capability and capacity in the primary sector and within the Waikato Regional Council to support the implementation of NES Freshwater Farm Plans and Plan Change 1.
You will lead a team that has a strong commitment to moving Waikato farming onto a more sustainable footing and will work closely with the Primary Sector Technical team, our information, communication, policy, catchment services and regulation teams.
**Qualifications**:
- Degree in environmental planning, natural resource management or physical or environmental sciences.
- Behaviour change. Communication or adult education qualifications is desirable
- Related post graduate qualification and an understanding Te Ao Māori is desirable
**Experience**:
- Minimum one year experience in a similar role
- A good understanding of National and Waikato Regional Council rules and regulations impacting the Primary Sector
- Excellent connections within the Primary Sector
- Understanding of farm systems
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement
- Proven people leadership and management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and conference issues
**About the role**:
To provide overall leadership in ensuring strategic, timely, efficient and prioritised engagement with Primary Sector stakeholders and within Waikato Reginal Council to meet their regulatory obligations. To support the delivery of extension and advisory services to support changes in practices on farm that will reduce the environmental footprint of agriculture in the region.
Some of the tasks this role undertakes:
- Contribute to strategic development of the Section
- Leading and supervising day to day operations of the Primary Sector Engagement team
- Establish and maintain constructive relationships with relevant industry bodies
- Collaborate with the Primary Sector Technical Support Team Leader to develop extension activities
- Develop a Primary Sector stakeholder engagement strategy and plan
- Collaborate with others to develop a Primary Sector communication strategy and plan
- Ensure that Waikato Regional Council, primary sector organisations and community initiatives to support sustainable agriculture are aligned, consistent and effective in bringing about on-farm change, through implementation of best practices and National and Council rules and regulations.
