Auckland City, New Zealand Auckland Council Full time

Join RIMU and make a difference to Auckland’s environment
- A dynamic role that will keep you engaged in the field and office
- Flexible working

**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

Lead the planning, management, and delivery of the field operations associated with the coastal processes monitoring programme for Auckland Council’s Research and Evaluation unit (RIMU).

With 60% of your time spent in the field, you will:

- undertake routine fieldwork monitoring throughout the year at a variety of our region’s beaches, including beach profiling through Real-time Kinematic positioning (RTK) and undertaking surveys using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drone surveys)
- support the maintenance of wave buoys, tidal gauges, and coastal monitoring cameras to ensure our monitoring techniques are accurate and effective
- maintain and model our high health and safety standards

Use your technical skills and experience to deliver high-quality data and ensure we are providing the best we can from our monitoring programme. Contribute to data management, analysis and reporting.

Work with the programme scientist and other team members to continually evaluate how we carry out our work, including the cost-effectiveness, and how we can improve and enhance our monitoring programme over time. Develop new ways of doing things, trial new methods or technology, identify better ways of collaborating with other environmental monitoring programmes within RIMU, such as dunes preservation, vegetation mapping, and water quality assessment.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You have a tertiary qualification in geography, coastal sciences, environmental science or a related discipline, or commensurate work experience in a technical field-based role and/or a scientific field with a primary research component.

What makes you a great fit for this role is your passion for beaches and the coastal environments, your practical field experience and ability to work in all terrains and weather conditions. You understand topographical survey techniques and the realities of running a monitoring programme, and can make pragmatic decisions on the fly. You offer a practical approach to delivering results and have great organisational and problem-solving skills.

The following would also be an advantage:

- experience with UAVs and processing software, such as Agisoft Metashape, Pix4D
- having Part 101 or 102 drone pilot certificates
- knowledge of GIS and digital mapping software for data processing

**Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer**

Joining RIMU is great for your career and professional profile as you will continue to develop strong networks across the council group and the environmental sector. You will enjoy being part of a diverse team of brilliant scientists, researchers, analysts and specialists who work flexibly and have a passion for making a positive impact on Auckland’s future.

See Knowledge Auckland for RIMU’s published research, information and analysis about Auckland's communities, economy and environment.

This role is deemed safety sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. A full driver's license is a requirement.

**Applications close on Sunday 24 March 2024**
