Articulate, motivated and reliable, you will ideally have experience working in a lab or with a microscope.Key Responsibilities
**Job tasks and responsibilities**
The successful applicant will work closely with the Nelson team to:
- Process and identify macroinvertebrate samples from marine and freshwater environments in the customised taxonomy laboratory.
- Perform data collection, data entry and tabulation.
- Willingness to develop marine and/or freshwater taxonomy skills (if not already present).
- Ability to work in a close team environment.
**Skills and experience**
To do this effectively you’ll have:
- University qualifications in some element of environmental science or a minimum of two years relevant work experience.
- Experience in processing and accurately identifying benthic macroinvertebrates from New Zealand using identification keys.
- Experience with using stereo and compound microscopes.
- Experience with establishing and maintaining reference collections.
- Experience compiling data as well as maintaining data records and files.
- Field work experience in freshwater and/or the marine environment would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- A clean driver’s licence and New Zealand citizenship/working rights are essential.
