Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the Mechanical Foreman oversees the daily running of the heavy mechanical and fitting operations. You will ensure timely and precise assembly, repair, reconditioning and testing of marine diesel and mechanical machinery, as well as overhauling valves and gearboxes while maintaining and enhancing the company's standards for quality and safety.

Your key responsibilities include planning and scheduling projects to ensure you have optimal staffing to meet time and quality requirements, including liaising with subcontractors and other internal departments. You will provide leadership, ongoing training, and development to your team and build a culture that is focused on improving safety and productivity while minimizing costs and maintaining high levels of quality and service. Building relationships with clients, keeping in regular contact on progress, and negotiating any variations is another critical aspect of your role. In addition, you will manage project reporting, job costing, and project administration. This position will also require you to be “on the tools” from time to time.

This role would suit a qualified mechanical fitter with experience leading engineering teams and who can demonstrate previous success in improving accountability and achievement of targets. You will be knowledgeable about health and safety, quality control, productivity, inventory, and workshop processes. Professional and people-orientated, you will be confident and capable of negotiating with customers/potential customers on scope, timing, and expectations. Other skills needed include proficiency in reading plans and technical drawing and confidence with Microsoft and other relevant technologies.
