**Position Overview**:
We are seeking a dynamic Research Lead to support the Manager Pou Tikanga (Te Ahikō) in realizing the objectives of the Piringa Hapū Archives Strategy. As the Research Lead, you will drive the research unit of Te Ahikō, overseeing research and development efforts aligned with our cultural preservation goals. This role entails leading research in whakapapa, kōrero hītori, tikanga, and mātauranga a hapū, while also contributing to the overall life of Te Piringa Hapū.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Design and lead research and mātauranga projects within the Piringa Hapū Archiving strategic priorities.
- Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders in research/archives and mātauranga spaces, including hapū, marae, iwi, government entities, and research centers.
- Provide guidance and support to enhance the impact and quality of our research for hapū wellbeing.
- Support the Manager Pou Tikanga in securing and preserving our mātauranga and oral histories.
- Assist in developing and managing a repository of hapū mātauranga.
- Maintain strong relationships with whānau, Uri, team members, and stakeholders.
- Ensure research work adheres to budgetary constraints and compliance standards.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- A recognized degree or qualification.
- Demonstrated experience in applied research and working within Māori communities.
- Strong understanding of tikanga/mātauranga of Te Piringa Hapū.
- Experience in stakeholder management, particularly with kaumatua, hapū, and iwi.
- Proven track record in project leadership, planning, and balancing diverse stakeholder needs.
- Familiarity with archiving practices and technology for cultural preservation.
- Proficiency in Te Reo Māori and cultural protocols is desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong research capabilities and effective planning skills.
- Ability to navigate uncertainty and develop innovative initiatives.
- Ethical conduct aligned with Hapū Authority values.
- Capacity to build and sustain meaningful relationships with diverse stakeholders.

**About Us**:
The Hapū Authority Trust (Te Piringa Hapū) was established in 2019 with a dedication to advancing the wellbeing of Ngāti Hinemanu, Ngāi Te Upokoiri, Ngāti Mahuika, and Ngāti Honomokai by promoting social, cultural, and economic prosperity in Aotearoa through initiatives in education, cultural enrichment, finance, housing, employment, and advocacy. Following the 2022 extreme weather events, we developed a 10-year Cyclone Recovery Plan with priorities in Environmental, Cultural, Social, and Economic areas. Specifically, our Cultural workstream focuses on establishing Te Ahikō | Te Puna Mātauranga o Piringa Hapū, a hapū archive, to secure and preserve our mātauranga, culture, history, and genealogy.
