**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
The Manager, Immigration (Skills and Residence) Policy role is a team leadership and management position in MBIE in the Employment, Skills and Immigration Policy (ESIP) Branch. You will bring your strategic policy and analytical experience to work in partnership with other managers and team members focusing on the immigration settings, and the impact they have on New Zealand’s labour market and the broader economy and society. You will be responsible for managing the team, its work programme, and working with the leadership team of ESIP to foster and develop the role and functions of the team.
This role will involve leading advice, shaping the work programme, developing team members, and working constructively with community, industry and government stakeholders.
You will work closely with the policy directors in the branch, and the wider leadership team, to support a high performing and evidence-based branch that is a great place to work, that has an enabling and inclusive culture, that solves gnarly problems for New Zealand’s benefit, and that develops our people.
MBIE supports a wide range of flexible working arrangements. Talk to us about what might work for both you and us.
**About the Team and Branch**:
In the year ahead, Employment Skills and Immigration Policy branch will be working on a range of high priority areas critical to supporting the response to the recent weather events and the ensuing economic recovery. Together with the Workplace Relations and Safety Policy Branch, we are the lead policy advisors on labour market issues.
The Immigration Policy Skills and Residence team provides advice on the immigration rules about who can live in New Zealand temporarily or permanently. This includes the settings for work, partnership and student visas.
**We are currently working on projects such as**:
- Implementation and monitoring of the Immigration Rebalance changes and new temporary work visa
- Changes to the Skilled Residence pathways that allow migrants to stay permanently in New Zealand
- Developing a framework for understanding and responding to the impacts of skilled immigration policies in changing economic, labour market and policy contexts
- Reviewing family and partnership settings including family violence situations, disability settings, and assessing genuine relationships
- Supporting Immigration New Zealand in refining its regulatory and processing processes
- Contributing to strategic and regulatory stewardship work to provide a cohesive view of the immigration system.
The Skills and Residence teams works alongside two other Immigration Policy teams (Border and Funding, International and Humanitarian) and the three teams regularly come together to share ideas and discuss key topics. All team members have opportunities to engage with Ministers, industry, and communities. We work closely with a range of other internal and external stakeholders including other policy teams and service delivery arms within MBIE.

You will be a key partner with other managers in the branch to support their work programmes and to take a broader view, as well as being able to lead and represent MBIE externally in policy and research activities. You will be very customer focused and a team player.
