The purpose of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Lessons Learned from Aotearoa New Zealand's Response to COVID-19, is to strengthen Aotearoa New Zealand's preparedness for, and response to, any future pandemic by identifying those lessons learned from New Zealand's response to COVID-19 that should be applied in preparation for any future pandemic.
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) will support the Inquiry by co-ordinating the All-of-Government input and facilitating and supporting DPMC's input.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
This is a newly created fixed term or secondment role for the duration of the Inquiry. This role sits within a small, dedicated team reporting directly to the Executive Director.
The purpose of the Senior Advisor role is to provide analytical and project support to the COVID-19 RCOI team who are preparing both the DPMC response to evidence requests made by the Royal Commission and providing All-of-Government system-level support and guidance to other agencies responding to Royal Commission requests. Senior Advisors are responsible for contributing to the scoping & subsequent work planning of evidence requests from the Royal Commission and preparing evidence responses. This is likely to include preparing documentation, sourcing inputs, response process and planning activities, supporting stakeholder engagement (including logistics) to enable DPMC to respond to the "Royal Commission into the lessons learned from Aotearoa New Zealand's response to COVID-19". This role is part of the DPMC's newly established COVID-19 RCOI Team.

To succeed in this role, we are looking for knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Able to demonstrate strong relationship management skills, often in complex and challenging environments
- Strong organisational skills, energy, enthusiasm, adaptability, and ability to work to strict deadlines and cope with changing demands and requirements in a team environment
- High level of judgement, discretion and tact, and ability to work effectively with a wide range of people
- Familiarity with the Official Information Act, Inquiries Act, Parliamentary Questions and Select Committee questions and appearances
- Familiarity with working with Ministers' offices and of the machinery of government would be an advantage
A natural team player with a shared focus on the end goal, you will have strong organisational skills, energy and enthusiasm and ability to adapt and flex as required.
