**About us**:
We want more good people to come and do great things with us.
We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.
Our risks are as diverse as the region we care for; from the coastlines of the Coromandel Peninsula to the ‘super-volcano’ in Taupō.
The Waikato Region Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group is administered by the Waikato Regional Council. It comprises a consortium of 11 local authorities, emergency services, lifeline utilities, welfare services organisations, government departments and non-government organisations operating in the central area of New Zealand’s North Island.
**About you**:
The effectiveness of Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) is not only measured in terms of an effective response, but also the ability of our communities and agencies, to recover from the risks they’re exposed to.
We are seeking a suitably experienced and motivated individual for the position of Senior Community Resilience and Recovery Advisor, Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) based in Hamilton.
This position supports community resilience and recovery policy development, and planning activities across the Waikato CDEM Group area. The position supports the Team Leader Community Resilience and Recovery, by providing matrix leadership that delivers the intended outcomes and outputs of the multi-agency work programme.
You will work alongside other CDEM Group Members, Emergency Management staff and other key partners to ensure our communities are prepared for, and more resilient to, the risks posed by hazards.
This role may fulfil the role of Group Welfare Manager, as defined under the Civil Defence Emergency Management National Plan 2015 and when required will lead the operational coordination of the welfare response during emergencies and disasters.
**You should be able to demonstrate a proven track record in**:
- Matrix leadership in complex and/or political environments, with a track record of achievement
- Leading, developing and/or facilitating projects and initiatives with regional and inter-regional impact.
- Developing or contributing to strategic, long-term and tactical planning.
- Crisis/emergency leadership.
If you have an interest in emergency management, a passion for providing leadership to enhance the resilience of our communities and would like to work in a positive environment, we are keen to hear from you.
**Qualifications**:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
**Experience**:
- 7 years in a relevant experience
Looking for flexible ways of working options, at Waikato Regional Council we are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation and our communities.
