Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Disaster Resilience Specialist to join our team at Hamilton City Council. As a key member of our Emergency Management department, you will play a critical role in helping our community prepare for and respond to disasters.

About the Role: The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating delivery of Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) by supporting Council, Hamilton City communities, and relevant agencies in understanding their hazards, planning for and mitigating risk, and developing preparedness and collectively building resilience against disasters.

Main Responsibilities: · Engage with communities and other agencies, including emergency responders, to increase the resilience of city residents.
· Educate the community about natural and man-made hazards that Hamilton is exposed to and provide guidance on how to be prepared for potential impacts of the hazards.
· Develop and enhance emergency response plans.

Requirements: · Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in emergency management or a similar operational role.
· Completed CDEM sector training via the Integrated Training Framework (ITF) or the ability to complete this training in a reasonable space of time upon commencement in the role.
· Demonstrated competent decision-making within high-stress situations.
· A positive, can-do attitude and a genuine commitment to increasing disaster resilience for Hamilton residents.
· An understanding of community issues, challenges, and opportunities.
· Highly developed interpersonal skills and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
· Experience in facilitating groups.
· Highly competent in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office.
· Cultural awareness, including awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi.
· Full NZ Driver's License.
