**Te Tūranga | About the role**

The primary purpose of this role is to provide strategic advice and expertise on community safety including the development of initiatives to address safety issues impacting on priority communities and to respond to perceptions of safety within geographic communities.

In addition, you will be supporting and advocating for the successful implementation of the newly adopted Safer Communities Action and Investment Plan. The role will be working to ensure that Tauranga is an inclusive, welcoming and equitable city where all people feel valued and can participate fully in their community. You will leverage your interpersonal skills to cultivate and manage both internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure positive outcomes for current and future community safety initiatives.

**Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed**

To succeed in this role, you'll bring;
Qualification (Degree) in community development, social policy or related discipline and/or at least five years practical experience in a similar role and in community development processes.
- Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi, Tikanga Māori and its implications for community development.
- Extensive experience with internal and external relationship management, in particular the ability to network and build relationships with social services, government agencies and community groups.
- Demonstrated success in project management of community responsiveness projects.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to facilitate internal and external workshops and meetings.
- An understanding of (CPTED) Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design is preferred but not essential.
