Ngā kawenga | About the role
The Senior Health and Safety Adviser - Portfolios provides health and safety advice and support to leaders, project and programme teams within the department's various change portfolios, particularly the asset and construction-focused ‘Infrastructure & Facilities Portfolio'.
The role's purpose is to develop and embed best-in-class processes for addressing health and safety within project and programme governance, risk assess new project proposals to triage those requiring greater health and safety consideration, provide health and safety input to detailed designs and Investment Cases, and provide regular insightful and constructive commentary on how effectively health and safety risks and matters have been addressed within project plans. This role will also provide health and safety input to related business-as-usual activities, such as strategic asset projects.
Should you be shortlisted for this position, interviews will take place on the week of the 4th of March. You will be asked to provide an example of your written work and to complete a short presentation.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Outstanding relationship management and communication skills across a broad range of audiences.
- Strong technical experience and analytical capability, including the ability to assess and advise on health and safety risks and matters within project proposals, Idea Briefs/concepts and Investment Cases;
- Excellent problem solver, able to use technical health and safety knowledge and understanding to provide options for reducing organisational risk profile;
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical advice that influences improved health and safety outcomes within a range of business projects, particularly those related to assets and construction;
- Familiarity with Health and Safety by Design principles and practices - able to use this to support project teams to reduce health and safety risk profiles;
- Outstanding written communication skills, able to succinctly articulate relevant health and safety risks, issues and matters that senior leaders need to be aware of and consider;
- Proven experience of supporting senior leaders on H&S matters - able to build positive relationships as a trusted advisor; and
- Robust attention to detail and strong focus on quality assurance of outputs and deliverables.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The mid-point of the salary range is $115,546 and the full range (85%-120%) is $98,215 - $138,656. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
