**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our Prevention team as a **Principal Advisor, (Integrated Targeting and Operating Centre). **This** **role will work as part of the Border Health Team in National Public Health Service (NPHS). The role will be physically located in Auckland and will provide operational and strategic border health input to the Integrated Targeting and Operating Centre (ITOC) on behalf of Te Whatu Ora. The primary purpose of the Principal Advisor is to play a leading role in the provision of specialist analysis and advice to both external and internal teams.

The Principal Advisor (ITOC) will work with border agencies to promote and maintain safe and healthy environments at points of entry and departure (airports, seaports, mail centres, Customs Controlled Areas, and transitional facilities), and reduce the impacts of border hazards on at risk communities.

You will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of swiftly assembling and synthesizing diverse information, knowledge, and analysis. You will be entrusted with handing complex, sensitive information, showcasing your unwavering drive to deliver results and take ownership of critical tasks. As part of the Border Health Team in the NPHS you will also continue to build and support relationships with the NPHS nationally, regionally, and locally and their duties may flex to accommodate ITOC and Border Health Portfolio. You are a motivated individual who thrives on tackling challenging issues, fostering connections, and giving effect to Pae Ora through leadership that is grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Meet the criteria for holding a national security clearance.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and working knowledge of the health and/or border sectors.
- Outstanding relationship management expertise. Ability to work in complex environments and with a wide range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the machinery of government and the development of policy and advice
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and of the health sector and border sector
- Proven ability to undertake border health risk assessments that provide evidence-based, practicable and proportionate risk management advice
- Previous experience working in central government and/or at the border
- Strong experience in influencing people, leading work programmes, policy advice and facilitation, coaching and mentoring staff.
