About the role

The purpose of the Employment Relations team is to provide assistance and guidance to resolve employment relations and disciplinary matters, employment agreement/legislative interpretation queries, manage Early Intervention and Kia Tū.

The purpose of the Employment Resolutions team is to manage and resolve conduct related matters using a values-based framework that has our people’s hearts and minds at the forefront and allows our people to feel safe to talk and supports a high-trust culture.

The role of the Employment Resolutions Investigator is to contribute directly to timely and thorough employment investigations in accordance with the Employment Relations Act 2000.

This role also contributes to the support and wellbeing of our people going through an employment investigation.

The Employment Resolutions Investigator will support fair outcomes for both our people and the organisation and when appropriate the use of alternative and/or restorative practices and the subsequent re-integration of staff back into the workplace after an employment process.

The Employment Resolutions Team (Te Ohu Manawanui) is a brand-new workgroup within Police. In addition to this role, the team is made up of 38 people consisting of managers, team leads, other specialists and employment investigators.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Responsible for conducting employment investigations and ensuring regular updates are provided to the Employee, Notifier and Employment Resolutions Specialist and other workgroups (i.e. Integrity and Conduct) as appropriate.
- Responsible for the delivery, quality, and consistency of employment investigations.
- Demonstrate and champion best practice around employment investigations within Police.
- Lead or assist, as required with case progression for alternative pathways including restorative practices.
- Ensure areas of potential risk to Police image, trust and confidence and reputation with employee matters are identified and appropriately escalated.
- Ensure any restorative practice processes or alternative pathways operate in a lawful, constructive and ethical way.

- Have a high standard of integrity and trust, particularly in respect of handling sensitive information.

- Have demonstrated ability developing investigation timelines and chronologies and determining the relevant documents and other evidence that may aid in the investigation.
- Display clear communication and interview skills
- Have the ability to develop interview questions and plans and conduct interviews in compliance with Police’s employment obligations.
- Experience working within a case management framework.
- Have considerable experience writing clear and concise investigations reports that include findings that meet the civil standard of proof.
- Have the critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions and conclusions.
- Have broad knowledge of NZ employment legislation to enable sound employment investigations that ensure natural justice.
- Know the impact of unconscious bias and how to manage own biases, especially with investigations findings.
- Have the ability to think ‘outside the box’ as it relates to solutions.
- Have an understanding or appreciation of operational policing and its context in employment matte
