Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
The Payroll advisor will provide Payroll support to our people, including the provision of advice on legislation, terms & condition and policy as and when required. You will also provide seamless support to the People and Capability (P&C) team to enable us to deliver a high quality service, ensuring we meet our goals within the people plan. Give all our people and external stakeholders a fantastic customer experience. You will work closely with our P&C team and our external payroll providers.

**You will bring**:

- Previous experience in providing payroll advice at an advisory level, preferably in a government department
- Good generalist base of experience across the entire payroll function, including payroll legislation as well as a general understanding of wider HR principles and legislation
- Ability to partner effectively with leaders, establishing credibility and influence, being comfortable challenging the status quo, being risk aware rather than risk adverse
- Contemporary knowledge and expertise in payroll and HR functions

- Responsibility for ensuring all fortnightly payroll activity is completed and sent to our vendor (Fusion5) in advance of agreed deadlines.
- Responsible for deliverables being met each pay period, processes are efficient and effective and meet people's needs.
- Ensure payroll is processed on time and accurately to our employees.
- Build the knowledge and capability of our people through the provision of high quality advice, particularly around payroll legislation and procedures, helping all our people navigate ‘how things are done around here', regarding payroll and providing a seamless advisory experience.
- Ensure payroll needs are met with the provision of helpful and pertinent advice.
- Provide guidance to our kaimahi on all payroll issues, including terms and conditions, leave, Kiosk, internal movements, and other issues as appropriate.
- Take a lead on payroll activity - this will be responsibility for and leading day to day administration around parental leave activity, change of terms and conditions, extensions, previous service activity, superannuation calculations and administration.
- Identify opportunities to improve and simplify payroll processes to create a great experience for all our people.
- Ensure activities are completed to meet or exceed expectations of the customer as well as supporting a great experience for our people in line with MfE's ‘Edge way of working'. Payroll processes are efficient and effective, meet people's needs and comply with legislation, employment terms & conditions and policy.
- Ensure the inclusion of te ao Māori in your work.

Understand and role model our Health, Safety and Wellbeing policies and procedures, proactively identify potential hazards and take appropriate action
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $87,534 to $106,096 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
