Wellington City, New Zealand Transpower Full time

Bring your expertise in managing the risk of critical infrastructure
- Collaborate, quantify, and justify asset strategy to manage and reduce risk
- Develop enterprise-wide asset management risk capability

Are you an experienced asset strategist or similar with a proven track record of analytics and quantifying & qualifying asset risk?

As the Grid Owner and System Operator, Transpower's purpose is to empower New Zealand's energy future - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a safe, reliable, and resilient electricity system.

**About the team**

Our Strategic Asset Integration Team, within the Grid Development division, is responsible for identifying and conveying our future Grid needs (10 - 30 plus years ahead) and develops transmission asset management strategies to meet our strategic objectives as outlined in Transmission Tomorrow and Whakamana i Te Mauri Hiko.

The team assimilates parallel workstreams that impact the grid and utilises a systems thinking approach to enable a joined-up and compelling Integrated Transmission Plan.

**About the opportunity - a newly created role**

Transpower is maturing its approach to managing network risk and uncertainty, so in this new role we're seeking an experienced Engineer who is passionate about transmission assets, managing asset performance with data to understand random events with repeatable processes, and working enterprise-wide utilising exceptional relationship management and influencing skills. This role is a key part of improving our risk based asset management decision making practices to continue beyond our Asset Health Network Risk Road Map.

With a passion for managing transmission assets with least regret decision-making, you'll get to utilise your sound technical skills and love of broader business analysis, and lead enterprise thinking which enables proactive management of risks and the ability to capitalise on investment opportunities.

Providing a linkage and 'line of sight' between our Corporate and Grid Business strategies, you'll work across the business to play a key role in:

- Determining the key differences between what is required of the Grid and what it's presently able to deliver as well as carrying out investigations to enable our network strategies.
- Develop and support an integrated risk prioritisation approach for the grid.
- Develop an effective Grid's risk management framework in collaboration with others.
- Leading engagement across Transpower (including with other strategic, customer, commercial, planning, engineering, and operational teams) to develop strategies and approaches to achieve our strategic objectives and enable improved delivery of the transmission service.
- Identify opportunities and options that deliver significant long-term value, through integrated customer, system, and asset planning.
- Representing Transpower within the external engineering community.
- Developing asset management capability within Transpower, including working across the division with People Managers to facilitate the technical career development of others.

Your commercial focus and ability to consider and articulate across multiple dimensions including customer, technical, commercial, and Grid capability, coupled with the ability to articulate benefits and trade-offs, will enable astute decision making.

You'll help to build asset management capability, inspire change, and gain a lot of executive exposure.

Your focus over the next 12- 18 months will be to develop and support an integrated risk prioritisation approach for the Grid and an effective Grid risk management framework in collaboration with others.

**About you**

You'll be a degree qualified Engineer with CPENG or an international equivalent with a demonstrable ability to work at pace and provide value. Your CV and cover letter will clearly convey:

- Strategic asset management and asset reliability experience and thought leadership, including completing asset life cycle economic analysis.
- An understanding of risk modelling, complex systems, or complex problems
- An ability to weigh cost, system performance, risk, and environmental sustainability.
- Outstanding communication skills - both written and verbal including demonstrated ability to convey technical information to a broad range of audiences, internally and externally. Ideally, you have contributed to, or authored, thought or board papers previously (please share these with us)
- A customer focus and astute relationship and expectation management skills when partnering with people of all levels and capabilities.
- Previous work leading cross-functional teams through influence and working both independently and where co-design is advantageous.

While not essential - experience in any of the follow are advantageous.
- Systems and risk engineering
- Application of new grid technologies
