Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The Data Developer role sits within the Ministry’s Knowledge, Information and Analytics team. The purpose of the role is to support Ministry staff and other stakeholders to use data for insights and decision-making, and have information at their fingertips through leading the creation and curation of an authoritative, single source of truth, that’s able to amalgamate data holdings across the Ministry and external sources. This role is a Ministry technical thought leader for data warehousing.
You will join a tight-knit and highly skilled team that works closely with stakeholders. There are great opportunities to be involved in highly valued and interesting work that supports Ministry policy development and service delivery.
**In a Data Developer role you will**:
- Develop, improve and maintain a high-quality and fit-for-purpose data warehouse
- Create and package code and reports to transform and integrate data for the data warehouse
- Provide techinical thought leadership, coaching and support (including supporting data analysts to write SQL code and specifications)
- Develop knowledge of the key datasets which can support the Ministry’s work
The Ministry is responsible for managing the New Zealand Aid Programme. One of the Data Develper roles has a specific focus on aid data and will work closely with Pacific Development Group data analysts.

- You love data, the more complex the better - understanding it, organising it, and managing it
- You are comfortable working across teams to curate one of the Ministry’s most important data assets
- You have advanced SQL skills and be an experienced user of the Microsoft suite of analytic products (e.g. SSMS and SSIS). Power BI skills would be an advantage
