An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join the national Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Te Papa Tongarewa as Senior Advisor Loans and Acquisitions, to lead a team of dedicated and skilled professionals caring for and supporting the outreach and livelihood of Te Papa's collections.
Reporting to the Head of Collection Access, and leading a team of two advisors, this position sits within the Collections and Research Directorate, home to our core museological capabilities that collect, curate, conserve, and protect Taonga to deliver on Te Papa's mission as New Zealand's national museum.
The work of the Loans and Acquisitions team is underpinned by the practice of people centred museology, a concept known as Mana Taonga. The team plays a crucial role in the management and care of key internal and external stakeholder relationships, to support seamless facilitation of acquisition and loan procedures.
The Senior Advisor Loans & Acquisitions is responsible for the operation and administration of Te Papa's loans, acquisitions, and deaccessions processes. They are responsible for ensuring all assurance requirements are met to maintain the protection and well-being of the Museum's collections that are lent, acquired, and deaccessioned. The role is also responsible for assurance requirements for items that are borrowed for exhibition, collection development and research purposes.

- Provide people management, professional guidance, support and oversight of the Loans & Acquisitions Team
- Provide operational information and advice on the loans, acquisitions, and deaccessions processes to internal staff and external lenders, borrowers, vendors, and donors.
- Ensure effective and efficient delivery of the annual loans and acquisitions team operational plan.
- Identify and manage risk relating to loans, acquisitions, and deaccessions.
- Provide secretariat services to the Collection Development Committee
- Prioritise workload to meet customer needs.
- Be an accomplished problem solver, providing innovative advice and solutions within legal and organisational parameters.
- Be results focussed and goal oriented.

Ka kawea mai e koe te aha ki Te Papa | Knowledge, experience & qualifications
- A good basic understanding of Māori tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles; appropriately use and pronouncing of Te Reo Māori commensurate with the requirements of the role.
- Demonstrated skills in building, educating, and encouraging teams in an environment where commitment to standardised practices and processes and a high attention to detail is required.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitation and negotiation with a sound understanding of contract and financial management.
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to express technical concepts effectively both verbally and in writing to suit the audience.
- Exceptional organisational and planning skills with the ability to keep track of multiple tasks at different stages of completion
