Senior Climate Change Advisor

He angitūtanga | About the role
DOC looks after a third of Aotearoa's land mass. Be part of action - this is your opportunity to directly influence how New Zealand responds to the changing environment around us.
As Senior Climate Change Advisor, you will support the integration of DOC's Climate Change work, resulting in positive biodiversity outcomes.

**You will**:

- Be the connector across research, adaptation and mitigation plans, nature-based solutions, policy-led work, and the DOC emissions reduction plan
- Provide advice about what is important in the medium to long term for Climate Change programmes, supporting SLT to make informed decisions
- Respond to Ministerial requests for support and servicing as needed
- Provide secretariat support for the internal governance of Climate Change work and contribute to papers for the Interagency Chief Executive Climate Change Board as required
- Ensure that biodiversity outcomes are maximised through climate change initiatives, including nature-based solutions.

If you have the following skills and experience, we are keen to hear from you:

- Solid evidence-based understanding of climate change and its effects
- Sound project management, coordination and implementation skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong relationship management experience, with collaborative approach
- Knowledge and understanding of the machinery of Government
- Experience with interpreting and translating technical information to recommend outcomes
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science or public policy
- Awareness of and openness to Te Reo me ona tikanga Māori.

Mō te tīma | About the team
The Biodiversity, Heritage & Visitors Group is responsible for translating strategy and policy into action for our operational branches which delivery biodiversity, heritage and visitor and Treaty partnership outcomes. This is the home for our technical expertise and science.
The Biodiversity, System and Aquatic Unit is made up of two programmes: one focused on system leadership of biodiversity strategy, the other on oversight of DOC's response to government policy on climate change. The team are passionate about their mahi, and inclusive, with high integrity.

The salary range for this position is $85,757.00 to $109,578.00 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
