Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand Tangram Full time
  • Programmes and Volunteer Services Group, Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA)
  • Permanent, full-time role
  • Wellington based with flexible working

Are you passionate about working for an ethical, locally-led organisation? Do you want to help build capability for communities across the Pacific?

If you answered yes to these questions, we'd love to hear from you

Beyond Recruitment is proud to partner with Volunteer Service Abroad – Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) in their search for a truly unique Recruitment Manager. In this varied and influential role, you'll be leading a tight-knit and capable team of recruiters. You will bring recruitment nous, people leadership, and a commitment to making a difference for Aotearoa and our Pacific neighbours.

About VSA:

Come and join New Zealand's largest volunteering agency working within international development – an organisation that puts manaakitanga first. VSA's programmes support countries across the Pacific and beyond to build capability and sustainable change. VSA partners with government and international agencies, private businesses, and not-for-profit community groups and organisations, to send their volunteers abroad on overseas assignments.

About the role:

The Volunteer Recruitment Manager leads a team of five direct reports – four Recruitment Advisors and one Recruitment Coordinator. Together your team provides end-to-end recruitment of around 150 professional volunteers per year, for a range of in-country, e-Volunteering, and other assignments for various country portfolios across the Pacific and beyond. These volunteers span a wide variety of functional areas: from doctors and nurses to climate change advisors to beekeepers… no two roles are the same As such, your ability to design role scope and collateral (e.g. job descriptions) will be hugely valuable to VSA.

In this role, you will provide thought leadership and best practice guidance to your kaimahi. You'll bring a continuous improvement approach to recruitment processes, candidate management, and timeframe expectations. You'll also build Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) capability within your team and the broader organisation – notably ensuring that VSA's Māori and Pasifika candidates experience a truly mana enhancing candidate journey.

The team uses JobAdder as their recruitment management system – we would ideally love for the Recruitment Manager to bring experience with JobAdder and the ability to maximise the benefits of this software.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience working in a similar sector, such as a not-for-profit, NGO, or public sector agency.
  • A track record of people leadership in a recruitment environment – this person will be ready to immediately coach and develop their kaimahi.
  • Strong relationship skills, including the ability to build and maintain relations with a diverse range of customer groups and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisation, project management, and delivery skills.

What VSA offers:

  • Work to suit your life and whānau with a hybrid working culture of up to 2 days per week from home.
  • VSA will encourage you to grow and prosper with a range of learning and development opportunities, through a dedicated professional development budget – including a Management course within your first few months in the role.
  • Your wellbeing is VSA's priority – support includes generous annual and sick leave, health benefits, and an overseas trip to the Pacific
  • VSA wants you to have a sense of belonging, where you can reflect your personal and cultural identity in the way that you work.
  • A friendly and inclusive culture, with regular morning teas and social connection with volunteers and other partners.
  • Great working environment in VSA's central Wellington offices, and an opportunity for an overseas trip to the Pacific to experience one of our programmes

How to apply:

Volunteer Services Abroad values diversity and is committed to an inclusive, flexible, and supportive workplace. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds and welcome the unique talent and experience you will bring to the VSA team.
