Good knowledge and experience of New Zealand herpetology, including experience using a range of different survey methods and techniques, or managing indigenous herpetofauna in some capacity.

Skills in ecological restoration would be very useful.
Good written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team.
Further qualifications and membership of an appropriate professional body.
Full current New Zealand driver's licence.4 WD experience.

RE LOOKING FOR:

A talented and experienced Principal Ecologist to be a part of our high performing and motivated Ecology Team in our Christchurch office.

A person who can provide relevant specialist knowledge in the area of ecology in New Zealand.

Someone who can manage, mentor and develop and support other staff in areas of expertise and experience, to provide high quality outputs for clients and build capacity in Wildlands for ecological projects.


MUST HAVE:

In excess of 10 years' experience in ecology Familiarity with statutory frameworks relevant to ecology and biodiversity in NZSound field skills covering a range of ecosystems, habitats, and taxa Excellent knowledge and experience of New Zealand vegetation plant ecology and/or fauna ecology, including wetlands and/or restoration biology and ecological management Experience in ecological effects assessments, ecological survey work, management and restoration of natural areas.

Project and budget management skills.
Experience with writing tender responses, contract reports, and managing fieldwork.
Passion and commitment to excellent leadership with proven people management skills.
An understanding of where to focus your team's efforts, how to play to people's strengths.
Great communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to build productive working relationships and work collaboratively.
Proven ability to communicate on appropriate technical and commercial levels to a diverse range of current and potential clients.
The ability to work independently and part of a team.
Memberships with appropriate professional bodies.
Full current New Zealand driver's licence.4 WD experience.
