Te Ara Tupua - Community Engagement Officer
This is your chance to work for the betterment of Wellington's harbour waterfront.

More people than ever are cycling in and around Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington), and Te Ara Tupua Alliance is working with our mana whenua partners to create a great walking and cycling option for people in our region, improve resilience, and promote the traditional narrative and presence of mana whenua.

More people walking and cycling will contribute to public health, help reduce emissions and ease the pressure on other modes of transport.


As part of the role, you will be required to:

  • Engage with the local community and iwi, sharing the story of Te Ara Tupua and the overview and milestones of the project
  • Provide high quality customer service and directly manage any questions or queries members of the public may have to the right person within the Alliance
  • Continually build relationships within the community through positive and open communication
  • Provide administration support to the wider Communications and Engagement team within the project

To be considered for the role, you will need to have:

  • Excellent communication and story-teller skills
  • A strong ability to work independently and effectively
  • Good relationship building skills
  • A willingness to learn and a keen interest for the Te Ara Tupua cultural narrative, Te Reo Māori, and Tikanga Māori
  • Te Ao Māori
  • Previous experience working in a customer public facing role in the community
  • Ideally, a keen interest in developing written communication skills for internal and external communications
