A BIT ABOUT LIVESTOCK IMPROVEMENT CORPORATION (LIC)


LIC is New Zealand's leading agri-tech and herd improvement co-operative setting the benchmark for pasture-based dairy farming through the delivery of superior genetics and technology.

As a result, New Zealand dairy herds are world leading and have some of the highest rates of genetic gain in the world.

LIC has two farms in the Manawatu area: Awahuri and Feilding. These farms are an integral part of their bull semen collection for New Zealand farms and international export.


LIC's Awahuri farm includes a double fenced 20ha EU Quarantine centre which houses bulls that have been through a strict quarantine process.

These bulls have both conventional and sexed semen collected from them. Alongside the semen collection area, LIC's Awahuri farm also has a laboratory and office.

The Fielding farm manages both bulls and replacement heifers for LIC's dairy farm in the Waikato.

THE OPPORTUNITY


The Farm Manager - Manawatu will be responsible for the management of Awahuri & Feilding bull farms, coordinating all farming activities, animal husbandry and semen collections for these properties.

This role requires all aspects of farming, environment, aesthetics, and animal health to be of an industry-leading standard.


The successful applicant will lead by example in all areas of the farming operation, establishing positive working relationships with stakeholders including the staff at Newstead Farm in Waikato, laboratory team and the wider LIC team.


As a modern, data-driven co-op, LIC works with large amounts of data and information which helps their farmers drive more value on-farm.

Therefore, recording, monitoring and reporting to a high standard is a requirement of this role.

LIC's Manawatu farms have a lot of moving parts due to their scale, requiring the appointee to this role to be organised and well planned.


A BIT ABOUT YOU
Along with relevant experience managing an intensive farming operation and a passion for the dairy industry the successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of farming.
  • High level of stockmanship and experience handling large bulls.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written) and ability to articulate plans.
  • Ability to utilise technology and modern systems for accurate recording and analysis of onfarm data.
  • Previous staff management & leadership experience.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Enjoy being handson, setting plans and achieving results.
  • Be an ambassador for the property and business.
  • Strong attention to detail.


 Compliance understanding
  • SOP's, H&S, environmental and risk management.

ON OFFER
There is an excellent remuneration package available, commensurate with experience.

Although accommodation is not provided with this role, LIC offers a 40-hour working week and supports professional development and networking opportunities.
