About the role


You would be responsible for supporting the Environmental health team to deliver effective and efficient services related to registration, licensing, verification, and inspections.

Your role provides prompt, helpful and accurate advice and information to businesses and other customers related to the how our team delivers food, health and bylaws services.


On a day-to-day basis, this involves administratively processing, information distribution and co-ordination, ensuring completion within the statutory timeframes and consistency with Quality Management Systems.

You will also undertake the financial functions required for premises licensing and business registration which includes invoicing, payment consolidation, debt management, refunds and credits, infringement payments, preparation of purchase orders and reporting on these functions.

Co-ordination and support across the teams regarding alcohol Licensing administration is expected.


Your role will be office based, working in the greater team of 7 people and reporting to the Team Leader Environmental Health.


You'll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council's work.


Duties Include:

  • Customer service
  • Data entry and reporting
  • Issuing of registrations
  • Recovery of fees and charges
  • Scheduling of verifications and inspections
  • Organise meetings, take minutes and undertake follow up administration as required.
  • Coordinate environmental health equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Ensuring information on our website is kept up to date.

Skills & experience

  • High level of competency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Anyone with experience in customer service and practical administration will suit this role.
