This is a fixed-term position for 2 years, reporting to the Board of Tairāwhiti Whenua Charitable Trust (TWCT), while working directly with the Secretary of the Trust. There will be a focus on achieving key project milestones. As the Catchment Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing administrative and general support to whenua Māori members of TWCT in the Tairāwhiti region.

As a Catchment Coordinator, you will:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with whenua Māori members, regional councils, industry groups, and other stakeholders involved in farm planning.
  • Ensure the active engagement of whenua Māori members at a level to achieve outcomes.
  • Engage with whenua Māori members and understand their needs, challenges, and aspirations for their land and water resources.
  • Assist whenua Māori members with the development of farm plans that comply with the relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Assist whenua Māori members to access and use data platforms that support their farm planning and reporting needs, such as Overseer, FarmIQ, and Farm Environment Plans.
  • Support the delivery of the various workstreams of TWCT contracts and potential variations.
  • Co-ordinate the activities of subject matter experts engaged to provide technical support to whenua Māori members.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with regulators and technical experts at an operational level.
  • Provide reports and provide data and insights into the work of TWCT.

Package

  • Hourly rate of $36 – 40 per hour.
  • Working from a shared space or working from home.
  • Tools of the trade and vehicle allowance provided (own vehicle required).

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in agriculture, environmental science, natural resource management or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • You have a profile in the region and are familiar with the local context and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework and best practices for sustainable land use and freshwater quality in New Zealand.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including whenua Māori members, industry groups, regional councils, and technical experts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in understanding farming-related data analytics and interpreting them within farming operations, such as but limited to FarmMax, Overseer, and FarmIQ.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the region as required.
