About the role

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is a modern regulator that puts equity of outcomes for learners, especially those under-served, at the heart of its mahi.

We have an excellent opportunity for a talented leader to lead our School Quality Assurance and Liaison team. This is a key role in the Assessment Division Leadership Team reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Assessment.
The School Quality Assurance and Liaison team is the public face of NZQA in secondary schools and kura. It is responsible for managing and monitoring assessment nationally and providing support for schools in their assessment processes.

In this role you will focus on the strategic and active management of processes and advice that supports high quality assessment in the secondary education sector.

This is also an opportunity to work with colleagues in other agencies and key education sector organisations.

You will lead a team that is responsible for:

  • providing assurance that national secondary school qualifications awarded are valid across New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Niue
- providing professional leadership for secondary school qualifications processes
- providing advice, guidance and support for school senior management, school Boards, students and parents, and the Cook Islands and Niue Ministries of Education
- providing assurance that signatory schools are compliant with the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students
- building and maintaining trusted relationships with a diverse range of key stakeholders, including secondary and area schools and kura and senior leaders across government.

Skills and experience
- are dedicated to ensuring the quality of New Zealand's secondary school qualification
- are committed to promoting equitable education outcomes for all students
- have a track record of building and leading inclusive and diverse teams, creating a respectful, open and responsive culture
- have strong stakeholder management and communication skills, and
- have a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the role of the Crown to give effect to Te Tiriti.
