The Advisor, Pathways and Transitions provides support to the Pathways and Transitions team in the design and delivery of curriculum and assessment policy, tools and services, from design through to implementation.


They will contribute to shaping a senior secondary education system that delivers quality and equitable pathways for all learners, allowing them to transition successfully for a life of learning, earning, caring, and contributing.


The Advisor, Pathways and Transitions will:

  • Contribute to delivering the Vocational Pathways Framework Review and Maintenance and Vocational Education in schools
  • Engage with a range of stakeholders from different cultures and backgrounds to achieve outcomes.
  • Contribute to the needs and priorities of a diversity of learners undertaking NCEA.

To be successful in this role you will have experience in a complex organisation and in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.

You will also have a good understanding of NCEA.


You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team


At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally, and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.


Te Poutāhū delivers and maintains critical services to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce, and society.

Te Poutāhū performs a crucial role working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions.


The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Te Poutāhū and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.

The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface.

This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including implementing the NCEA Review changes through the Review of Achievement Standards) and secondary-tertiary programmes.
